Simply visit the download section of the official websites:
European version
1) Visit the Downloads section of http://daoc.goa.com/en/.
2) Under Complete Games get one of the available installers: Trials of Atlantis (796 KB), Catacombs (788 KB), Darkness Rising (650 KB), or Labyrinth of the Minotaur (500 KB). [The different versions will have increasing system requirements.]
3) Start the installer and choose an install directory.
4) After accepting the conditions, clicking on Install will copy the Mythic Update client into the chosen directory.
5) Click OK, then double-click camelot.exe in your selected DAoC directory. This will finally start the download of the game [for ToA it's "only" 1.9 GB up to LotM with 3.9 GB].
7) Once the update process has been completed, click Cancel.
US version (latest version currently not supported - if possible use European download description instead)
1) Download the 14 Day Free Trial (1.87 GB!) and install it.
2) Next, download one of the available add-ons [Trials of Atlantis (704 MB) or Catacombs (1.2 GB)] under Expansion Files using the "I am playing the 14 Day Free Trial" link.
3) Start the trial upgrade, locate your trial directory, and specify another directory for the installation. After the installation is complete click Finish.
4) After that you also have the option to upgrade to Darkness Rising. (An existing installation of Catacombs is required.)4a) To do so go to the Darkness Rising section under Expansion Files.
4b) Select Full Download (881 MB) [or Partitioned Download if you prefer]. Once the download is complete start the installation.
4c) After accepting the EULA you will be asked to specify your existing Catacombs installation directory. Darkness Rising will be installed in a new location which you will specify in the next step. [So, there is no need to backup before installing.]
5) The same procedure can be applied to the latest add-on Labyrinth of the Minotaur (511 MB). (An existing installation of Darkness Rising is required.)

I'm a little confused, does choosing a new directory other than the 14 day shrouded isles one include like making 2 folders on the desktop for both expack like catacombs and darkness rising, and choosing to install there and the freeshard client will still recodnize it?
also should I not update the actual client after installing the 14 day trial of shrouded isles? Thanks
it keeps telling me I have specified an invalid DAoC client, and I am totally lost becuase I am new to this freeshard thing. please help. |

After you have installed a newer expansion than Shrouded Isles in a second directory you can actually delete the first one. It's no longer used.
You should update your client if it's not already at version 1.87/1.88/1.89 - and you should preferrably downgrade when you are at 1.90/1.91.
The "invalid DAoC client" message probably means that you have not specified a correct location or that your installation is too old.

ok my version says 1.90 when I play and when I go in towns it is incredibly laggy. I was told catacombs has more advanced graphics in town and ToA does not do that as much. The thing is, I didnt even install catacombs, but I do have ToA installed as I was told it is needed. I have a slower pc( celeron D processor, 1.5gb of RAM, ATI Radeon 9250 PCI).
I was also told ToA is better for slower pc's and i'd liek to downgrade as you said but I do not know hwo to do this. I would rather not play with catacombs and instead use ToA's less intense graphics. |

Post a screenshot of your "ToA" version... I bet it's Cata running or worse... Darkness Rising.

Because you are looking at the version of the updater.
Since 1.68 is showing that you are using the US server (i.e. game version 1.91) you should edit (see here) your update.dat file and then run camelot.exe.

I download three program:14 day free trial、catacombs、darkness rising，i should choose which one??
i delete original update.dat and then edit the new in darkness rising
i run camelot.exe but in vain |

So the US version can connect to this shard with some tinkering of the update.dat files?
or is US version a no-go?
